UCalc FMP June 2005 beta A new beta for UCalc FMP is now available for download. In the previous beta (January), ucDefineSyntax was added as a new feature. Since then, this feature was gradually enhanced and fine-tuned while being put to the test with the development of an actual interpreted language. Among other things, regular expressions, optional arguments, and alternative arguments are now supported in syntax definitions. Also new to this beta is support for escape characters that perform special tasks. Release date estimate A release date still cannot be estimated properly at this stage. I seems like the ucDefineSyntax feature that was introduced in the previous beta opened a whole new can of worms. Although things have gone a long way since the previous beta, it will take some more time to stabilize the new features and everything else. So this June beta is likely not the final one. As a way to ensure that UCalc FMP will actually let you create interpreted languages as envisioned, chances are that work will be done on interpreted versions of languages such as BASIC, Pascal, C, Logo, maybe a LISP dialect, and perhaps a few other languages, while various language-building features in UCalc continue to be fine-tuned accordingly.
