Daniel Corbier, the author of uCalc products respects the privacy of clients and customers.  This privacy policy explains how user information may be collected and used.

Contact information sent via e-mail is stored, and is used for customized correspondence with you.  Your e-mail address collected this way will not be rented, sold, or shared with a 3rd party for commercial purposes without your express consent.  Your e-mail address is not added to the uCalc mailing list unless you expressly sign up for it using the instructions found in the contact page.  Prior to this special mailing list, e-mail was occasionally sent to uCalc users using a less sophisticated mailing list.  Users might receive one last e-mail announcing the re-designed web site with information on how to sign up if they want to continue receiving announcements from then on.

If you have submitted postal information, then you might occasionally receive uCalc-related promotional material via postal mail.

When you place an online order for uCalc, it is handled by a 3rd party.  The main ordering links (which are also the recommended ones), are Digital River and Google checkout, which are trusted names in the e-commerce industry.  Digital River and Google checkout have their own privacy policy that is separately worded from this page.

When you fill out the User Satisfaction Survey, your name and e-mail address are optional.  If you provide such information, it is used in the same way as described in the second paragraph.  Typically, you will receive no response for filling out the survey, though in some cases, you might receive a response that for instance may point out a feature that you have requested, but which is already part of the product, or was added to a beta for the next version.  Notice also that even when you do not provide an e-mail address, your IP address is still automatically submitted.  This info is usually not very specific.  It may for instance indicate which university or Internet provider you are affiliated with, which is useful in the analysis of demographics of uCalc users.

The online uCalc message forums use cookies. This makes recurring visits to the forum more pleasant.  For instance, if your browser has cookies enabled, you will be able to see at a glance whether new forum messages were posted since your last visit. Browsing through the forum does not require you to leave any personal information.  But the system requires a name and e-mail address before you can post a message.  This information is mainly of use for automated purposes.  For instance, if you forget your forum password, you can have the forum software e-mail it back to you.  You can also configure it to send you e-mail notifications whenever a new message is posted.  Under very rare circumstances a message might be sent to all forum users, usually for forum maintenance purposes.  Users may opt out from receiving such messages. The forum software also gives you the option of posting a profile that is publicly accessible by anyone.  Such public information is not covered in this privacy policy.

When submitting contact information, you may include a note to further restrict what can be done with the information you provide.

Individuals who post nuisance messages in the forums (such as solicitations for products that are completely unrelated to uCalc) might have their contact information forwarded to proper authorities.

As one can expect with any law-abiding company, your information may be shared with legal entities in compliance with valid legal processes such as court orders, subpoenas, warrants, etc...

Your information may also be shared with the proper entities, in unusual circumstances where in good faith, this information is required in order to protect or defend property or rights associated with uCalc, or if such information is necessary to protect the personal safety of uCalc affiliates or members of the public.

Updated on May 23, 2007 (changes pertain to the spelling of uCalc, and the mention of Google checkout).
